Two Emotions, One Choice

As human beings, we have but two basic emotions from which to choose in each moment of our existence.

The first basic emotion is love and this comes from God.  In fact, love is God, and God is love.  Love is the root emotion of joy and happiness and grace and caring and nurturing and peace.  It is the only emotion we are born with, and the one that stays with us no matter how our life unfolds.  Love is the root of all things good.

The other emotion is fear and this comes from our ego.  Fear is not of God, in any way what so ever.  We are not born with fear, in fact we learn fear from family and friends and schools and businesses and governments and other fearful humans in our lives.  Fear is the root emotion of anger and hate and regret and guilt and greed and jealousy and war.  Fear is the root of all things bad.

In each moment of each day, consciously or unconsciously, we choose either love or fear and all of the other emotions follow accordingly.  When we choose love, our life is full of things like joy and caring and grace and peace.  When we choose fear, our life is full of anger and regret and greed and war.  This is a free choice, by the way, and is not mandated by another person or institution.  We can, and do, freely choose one or the other many times each and every day.

So, which will you choose in the next moment?  Later today?  Tomorrow? Next week?  Imagine for a moment how your life will unfold if you choose love rather than fear.  In fact, imagine how the world around you will unfold, depending upon your choice.  In fact, imagine how the world at large would unfold if we all would only choose love.  Interestingly, I believe that that is all God asks us to do.  To choose love.
